Wilderness/Water exhibition of mixed media paintings by Linda Moss at Hayfield Library, Nov 9-Dec 31 2013

If you regularly walk the upland paths of the High Peak, you may come across Linda Moss perching on a rock  or in the shelter of a drystone wall. She’ll have a sketchbook in hand, clipped open against the wind, while she makes a quick drawing in pen and coloured pencil of the magnificent landscape. A few smudges with a wet finger will indicate texture, light and shade, then she’s off down to her studio at her smallholding in The Wash to make a finished painting in greater comfort.

“If it’s a warm, still day, I can make the finished work on the spot. But we don’t get many such days, and anyway I’m trying to capture the effect of wind, snow and cloud in many of my paintings, so I need to go out there in some pretty wild weather” says Linda.

Linda’s vibrant images of our local landscape are a far cry from traditional watercolour painting, using wax resist, thumb prints, spatters of ink and paint to give an impression of the rugged textures of rock, moorland and vivid skies.

An exhibition of her work opens in Hayfield Library on Nov. 9th until New Year’s Eve. You can meet her there to chat and watch her painting on Friday Nov. 15th from 2-5pm. She also exhibits at New Mills Gallery, 12 High St. New Mills.
