The sharp descent to Whaley Bridge from the lane high on Cracken Edge, and the equally steep rise up to Coombes Edge, are what struck me on this cool day late in August: the warm reds of willow herb and heather linked the high foreground and backgound across the fields of mown hay in the valley.
