A womans guide to men'

This piece uses fragments of hand made paper and a found book. I first of all threw the book onto an open fire and allowed it to smolder and burn in a controlled way. Most of the pages were allowed to burn away leaving the burnt shell of the book covers. I then “reconstructed” the pages of the book using handmade paper fragments which I painted with acrylic and gouache paint to suggest fire damage. The book’s title on the spine was highlighted using gold gouache paint. Fire and fire damage attracts me because of the intense, dramatic, yet subtle colours and textures, evoking strong primitive feelings.
